The building is for the use of one individual or family.
When the space available allows the construction of a building isolated from neibouring constructions. When owner activities are noisy or require space for storage outside.
When designing small houses, these patterns are particularly relevant:
- Scale: simple obvious exterior form
- Extreme contrasts in interior scale esp. vertically
- Smaller and larger than normal fenestration
- No more than two basic roof elements
- Broad eaves
- Quality materials
- Multipurpose / overlapped shared spaces
